MOVING ON - After almost ten years of creating symbols for
use with Geographic Information Systems, it was time to move
on to another career. In 2006 Jim turned to landscape painting
full time. Thus began the pursuit of reality for a dream that first
formed very early in his life. It was time to turn "Someday" into
"Now". To see how Jim is doing with his new career,

DDV MARKER SYMBOLS - Working as Data Deja View, Jim
created over 180 symbol sets for use with the Environmental
Systems Research Institute's (ESRI's) ArcInfo, ArcView3 and
ArcGIS software. These sets are posted on ESRI's ArcScripts
website page for free download by users of ESRI software.
The symbol sets included pre-numbered highway route symbols
for all fifty States and two Canadian Provinces in both ArcView
and ArcGIS symbol sets. To access these symbol sets, go to
ArcScripts (use the jump to the right) and enter the letters "ddv"
(without the quotes) into the search arguement.
A number of special, targeted-use symbols sets were also
created. Jim wrote several articles for ESRI's ArcUser magazine
showing how to use these symbol sets to meet complex mapping
needs. Links to the articles on the ESRI website are provided
below. The first three showcase using Shademax, a set of colors
developed for shaded relief mapping. The fourth demonstrates
how multiple related datum can be represented with a single
complex point symbol.

SYMBOLS - UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP - In 2005 ESRI aquired
most of DDV's symbols. The symbol sets are still available on
ArcScripts. While ESRI has said that ArcScripts will be replaced
in the future, it seems that the individual scripts will continue to be
available, but perhaps not as directly accessible. The specifics
of this are not known to DDV.
APPLICATION COYOTE - These applications have been created
with Visual Basic 6. While they are known to work through ArcGIS
Version 9.3, it is my understanding that ArcGIS Version 10 does
not automatically support/allow VB6-based applications to work.
While a user-invokable workaround may or may not exist, it is
clear that at sometime in the future, these applcations will no longer work.
COYOTE DOWNLOADS - These applications are available for
download here. Data Deja View does not have ArcGIS 10
and there are no plans to move the applications from VB to a
dotNET environment.
